Top 5 Pegs

mutant_bmx_peg_guard

Being a sad pegless guy for the last 10 years hasn’t done much for my knowledge of grinding apparatus, and I know I’ll be hounded to the ends of the earth, not to mention strung up by my cock and balls by a rabble of peg-thugs for not doing a grind-related top 5; so I sorted it.  Don’t go saying I don’t treat you right.  For a change, this weeks panel consists of Ben Stringer, H.M.F.I.C. at BTN(Brighton) BMX Shop and Jonathan Rubbersmith, aliased industry insider with far too much to say for his own good… both seasoned grinders with a better idea about pegs than the pedal-grinding prick typing this.

Animal (ABikeco my arse, sue me AnimalUK…) LinOG

Jon Rubbersmith: Okay, off the top of my head here are (in my opinion) 5 current and “better” pegs out right now.  Animal LinOG; classic design and available in 4.5″.  Animal are the sickest…

Steel is real and Animal have always kept it as such (except for those wedge posts- what was that all about?!) With pegs being used in 95% of clips Animal have ever put out, you can bet your bottom dollar on them having the creme de la creme of axle pipes.

Animal Butcher

Ben Stringer: I’d say Animal Butchers purely for the fact that they used Butcher doing a gap to tyres on a rail for the advert haha!

JR: This.  I’d say they’re dated now since they are pretty big in diameter due to the alloy core but still a good choice.  I’d say Cult Butters are a good mention too since they are smaller in diameter, have a replaceable sleeves and are pretty cheap…

Short 4″ – W/ Plastic Sleeve

Diameter: 1.6″ (40.5mm)
Length: 3.9″ (100mm)
Weight: 5.1 oz (Each)

Long 4.5″ – W/ Plastic Sleeve

trick-stick-black21

Tree Trick Stick

JR: I’d say Tree’s alloy Trick Sticks for people who want lighter pegs

Yeah good one, Tree never get much of a mention (despite being one of the best firms out there) and you got cater for the parkrats…

JR: Those dudes have money haha

Made with similar aluminium to skateboard trucks, these pegs will slide rails all day long.  I wouldn’t wanna try ’em on an unwaxed ledge mind you…

Shadow Conspiracy Little Ones

JR: Shadow Little Ones (one of the first slim pegs and Simone loves em so they must be good haha)

BS: Yak. surely your input could be the use of Primo jewels, or those Animal stump things. No mention of the Eclat slot machine 3″ pegs?

As much as I like the whole micropeg thing and run an old Superstar one to protect the threads on my coaster, most peg thugs will probably lie down and weep in a darkened corner at the thought of only having an inch of peg anywhere near this list.  Simultaneously, the Sad Pegless Society will likely lower me headfirst into a vat of their own tears for being a peg thug in disguise.  I can’t win…  Little Ones it is.

4″ long

4.33″ long
Axle: 14mm Hole w/ 3/8″ adapters included
Diameter: 1.3″ (33mm)
Length: 4.33″ (110mm)

eclat_2017_venom_peg_green_02-960x641

Eclat Venom

JR: …Eclat Venom,  a lot of PROs who don’t even ride for Eclat ride them.

I’d probably ride these too if I was into that kind of thing…  The chromoly core is what gives it a little more weight but that said, I’ve hear of people running these much longer than most, if not all other plastics.  Sounds like a good trade-off.

4″ Peg
Axle: 14mm Bore w/ 3/8″ Adapter Included
Diameter: 1.5″ (38mm)
Length: 4″ (102mm)
Weight: 6.3 oz (Each)

4.5″ Peg
Axle: 14mm Bore w/ 3/8″ Adapter Included
Diameter: 1.5″ (38mm)
Length: 4.5″ (115mm)

BS:  I’d post either the roller pegs or the mutant peg/guard combo on the thumbnail as a red herring…

Specs nicked from Dans Comp mostly…
